John Paul II School of Polish Language
John Paul II School of Polish Language at the parish dedicated to Our Lady of Czestochowa in Boston, has a long history. Its origins date back to 1906, when in the new built, at the initiative of the local Polonia, parish school began teaching Polish and teaching other subjects in the language
.The
students of the school are children of preschool age (toddlers, elders, zero), primary school (grades I-VIII). Classes are held on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Apart from lessons in the field of Polish language, history and geography of Poland, students are also covered by the teaching of computer science, which is done by specialists employed for this purpose.
The school has had many successes to its credit. It is undoubtedly the number of students, which is constantly growing. Children don't just participate in activities. They are present at various types of inter-school competitions, where they occupy award-winning places. For three years they have also edited their own newspaper entitled “Voice of Youth”. Together with the teachers, they prepare various performances presented on and outside the school grounds. One of the very successful ones certainly is the performance shown at the Consulate General in New York. Another example is demonstration lessons prepared for all conventions of Polish teachers. Achievements and successes are the sum of the mutual work of children, parents and teachers, and these are already proven educators. At the turn of seven years, three of them were awarded the National Education Medal, and five received the President's Award of the Head Office of Secondary Education.
Despite various moments in its history, the School of Polish Language exists and “holds firmly” in the awareness of the local Polish environment. He is still developing and perfecting. And it continues to achieve its main goal: teaching language and nurturing culture and traditions among subsequent generations of Polish emigrants.
