1. Understanding Cargo Loading, Securing, and Tarping
- Proficiency in cargo securing methods: straps, chains, corner protectors, binders, tarping.
- Knowledge of when tarp fees apply (additional charges for covering loads with tarps).
- Awareness of cargo requires oversize permits and escort vehicles.
2. Load Searching and Booking High-Paying Freight
- Experience with load boards: DAT, Truckstop, 123Loadboard
- Strong negotiation skills with brokers to maximize freight rates.
3. Documentation and Rate Calculation
- Proficient in preparing and managing Rate Confirmation, Bill of Lading (BOL), Proof of Delivery (POD)
- Ability to calculate deadhead miles, detention time, layover fees.
4. Partial Load (LTL) Management and Route Optimization
- Ability to consolidate multiple partial loads to increase profitability.
- Understanding proper placement of partial loads on a trailer for optimal weight distribution.
- Calculating total weight and dimensions to ensure compliance with legal limits.
- Planning multi-stop routes for efficient unloading of partial loads while minimizing downtime.
5. Advanced Negotiation Skills
- Securing additional fees for tarp, detention, layover, and extra stops.
