Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people aged 65 or more and certain people under the age of 65, including those with disabilities and those suffering from permanent kidney failure or amyotrophic sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease).

Medicare helps cover health care costs, but it doesn't cover all medical expenses as well as it doesn't cover the cost of drugs and long-term care.

Medicare is funded by the federal government through payroll taxes, paid for by employees and their employers.
It is also funded in part by deductions to the Social Security fund.

The office of “The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services” is the government agency responsible for the Medicare program.
